حملة انتخابية

انطلقت الحملة الانتخابية .. طرقتُ باب جاري لأذكّره فحسب ، فقد كان صوته مضمونا ؛ ليس بحكم الجوار وحده، وإنما لأمور أخرى أربأ أن أذكرها .
استقبلني الجار بترحاب صادق . أخبرته أني ترشحت في ( الدّوار ) ، وأريده أن يصوت لصالحي . بهت الرجل ، وكأن صاعقة صعقته .. وتلعثم :
ــــ ولكن ...
ــــ ولكن ماذا ؟؟
ــــ سبقك المرشح الآخر ، ورمى عليّ ( العار ) .
ــــ وليكن ، أنت حر في اختيارك .
ــــ العار صْعيب أجاري ، ما قْدرتْ عليه ..
لم أشأ أن أجادل الرجل ، وذهبت أطرق أبواب جيراني الآخرين .. كانوا كلهم مطوقين بــ ( عار ) منافسي .
أدركت أن ( العار ) سيهزمني ، فتوقفت عن متابعة الحملة .

The election campaign was launched. I knocked on my neighbour’s door just to remind him, for his vote was guaranteed ; not only due to our being neighbours but also because of certain things that I would rather not mention.
The neighbour welcomed me well. I told him that I was a candidate of the village and I wanted him to vote for me. The man got stunned as if he had been hit by a thunderbolt.
- « But… » He stammered.
- « But what ? »
- « I had already promised the other candidate to vote for him»
- « That’s of no import, since you’re free to make your choice »
- « I won’t fail to keep my promise for him. I just can’t »
I did not want to argue with the man any further. So I went along knocking on the other neighbours’ doors. Unfortunately, they had all pledged to vote for my rival . I realised that I would get disgracefully defeated. So, I cut short my campaign.
